| This book is a breezy and fun account of the
disco era through the eyes of fans Alan Jones and Jussi Kantonen. To the authors'
credit, they do manage to touch on the diversity of disco music, from Eurodisco and gay
disco to the soulful side represented by Salsoul. They even go so far as to discuss
disco-related movies, popular disco drugs, and an extensive list of their favorite
songs. If there is one complaint here, it is the European bias, evidenced by the
photo inserts and the pieces on the likes of Boris M and Meco with nothing on disco-funk
acts like Mass Production or Bohannon. But that is perhaps to be expected
considering the authors' background. People looking for a more detailed,
intellectually challenging retelling of disco's story will be left wanting. But if
you're just interested in a brief overview of the major players, or are one of those
people like myself who tends to buy any book related to dance music, you'll have a good
time with this. Copyright ©2001 Anthony Lamar Rucker. All rights reserved. |
