One of the leading lights of the West London sound, Neon Phusion is comprised of Orin Walters, Alex Phountzi and Kaidi Tatham.   Their sound is a combination of Afrobeat, house and drum and bass, with live playing and programmed beats coexisting in harmony.  Their 1999 release The Future Ain't The Same As It Used To Be is a future classic. The individual members also have various solo projects in development.

Future Ain't the Same As It Used 2 B (Laws Of Motion, 1999)
A masterpiece.  This disc will take you on a journey across genres, moods and tempos, making repeated listening a necessity.  "How Times Fly" is some futuristic soul that manages to be rooted in house while suggesting the birth of a totally different sound.   "Hot Ice" and "Timecode" have drum and bass at their core but the live instrumentation turns them into something more.   The same can be said of each track here, as established genres collide with futuristic funk to create an undescribable blend that is right on time for the 21st century.  Despite being over a year old, I still come back to this on a regular basis.
