One of the many acts that recorded for Capitol
during the label's great run of funk and soul in the early 1980s was
groove favorites Marz. The Maryland band was comprised
of Gerard Mackell, Parris Lane, Keith Rowel, Bill Pettaway,
DeWayne Hernon, Marvin Ennis, Perry Hutson, and Gregory
Mackell. After developing a following on the local scene, the group hooked up with producer Lionel Job (most famous for his work with Starpoint), and recorded one album before disbanding. They are best known for their cuts "Move It Groove It," highlighted by a rap-style delivery on the bridges, and the mellow "You Got Me Crying Again." Pettway later co-wrote "Girl You Know It's True" by the infamous Milli Vanilli. Marz's Deepest Groove Make It Right (Liberty, 1982) Copyright ©2008 AllThingsDeep.com. All rights reserved. |
