Representing hardcore funk for Louisvile, Kentucky, the Nite Liters were one of the better instrumental outfits of the early funk era. Their music was heavy on the horns, and always had a sense of abandon that made them compelling. Their own records were not terribly successful from a commercial standpoint, but "K-Jee" was covered by MFSB, so somebody must have been listening. They had a greater profile as the backing band for New Birth, where they added a harder edge to the smoothed out tendencies of the vocalists.
