One of the great, underappreciated Chicago house records has to be Smooth's "Promised Land." Voiced by Anthony Thomas, the song is an encapsulation of the spirit that is the motivating force behind many in the dance community. Adopted as an anthem upon its release, the record has been the workhorse of Smooth's career, remixed and reissued many times over. He is also known for a similiar-sounding song "I Try" that isn't as popular as "Promised Land." He has maintained an off-and-on career since, mostly based from Europe.
