Another in the long line of productive soul bands from Cincinnati, the Deele topped the charts with pleasant sides like "Body Talk" and "Two Occasions," but is perhaps best remembered for serving as the launch pad for entrepreneurs L.A. Reid and Babyface.

Formed in the early 80s, the group's members were Kevin Roberson (bass), Darnell Bristol (vocals), Carl Greene (vocals), Antonio Reid (drums), Kenny Edmonds (keyboards, guitar), and Stanley Burke (guitar). Edmonds had been a member of Manchild, local favorites who had a minor hit in 1977 with "Especially For You."

Success came to them fairly quickly as "Body Talk" was a top 5 record in 1983. Produced by Reggie Calloway of label mates Midnight Star, the album had follow-up hits in "Just My Luck" and "Surrender."  The sophomore album Material Thangz was a relative failure despite the popularity of the title cut.

Reid and Edmonds then began developing a reputation as one of the top r&b songwriting and production teams, helming hit records for Pebbles, the Whispers, and Bobby Brown.  By the time that Eyes of A Stranger was recorded in 1988, the band was able to capitalize on L.A. and Babyface's popularity.  The album was their biggest seller, with two charting singles in "Shoot Em Up Movies" and "Two Occasions."

During the rest of the 80s, L.A.and Babyface blossomed into superstars, hastening their departure from the group. The remaining members reunited for Invitation to Love, which stiffed upon release.

Firmly in the style of the label's biggest act at the time, Midnight Star, but "Just My Luck" and "Crazy 'Bout 'Cha" provide a glimpse into Babyface's future work.
