Alicia Myers was the featured female singer in the original edition of One Way, singing on their first two LPs. After she left seeking solo stardom, she continued working with members of One Way, most notably Kevin McCord, who produced a lot of her material. The self-titled debut album yielded the quiet storm classic "If You Play Your Cards Right." Her most enduring song is "I Wanna Thank You," a moving blend of gospel and uptempo soul that became a classic despite not being promoted as a single. (MCA, after realizing the song's popularity, put the song out as the B-side of a 12" single in 1984.) "You Get The Best of Me" hit the top 5 in 1984, becoming her biggest hit. Unfortunately, by the time a follow-up to I Appreciate was recorded, fellow Detroit vocalist Anita Baker had begun to capture audiences with smoothed-out music similar to Myers' strengths and she eventually drifted away from the music industry.
