This former schoolteacher became one of the leading house vocalists of the 1980s with her string of hits produced by the Smack production team. She came onto the scene with a startling cover of "Respect," taking the soul anthem into a new era with the message intact. "In And Out Of My Life," "Don't Let It Show On Your Face" and "Warning" followed and she appeared to have the potential to cross over into general r&b airplay. Unfortunately, that did not happen as "Independent Woman" failed on the charts, despite being a typically strong effort. "I Thank You" fared slightly better. She performed some vocals on Frankie Knuckle's Welcome To The World LP and a little-known release in the mid 90s was her last full length project.
